June
8th. "Ready
for the fight (Feat. Count Bass D)" featured on EA Games "Fight
Night Round 4" game.
MofoHifi Records and Ultra Records are delighted to announce that the forthcoming track by The Young Punx - "Ready for the fight" is featured prominently as the title track on the highly anticipated new boxing video game "Fight Night Round 4". The track is one of several songs from the 'eclectic electric collective's forthcoming album "Mashpop and Punkstep" to feature guest vocals from highly respected Memphis rapper Count Bass D.
“Ready for the fight” is triumphant cross genre collaboration between London-based electronic dance producers The Young Punx and Memphis-based king of the independent Hip Hop producers Count Bass D. Despite radically different musical and cultural backgrounds both artists have developed a great respect for each others’ work and come together to create a unique and moving track seamlessly combining the best of post Daft Punk European dance production with big room Hip Hop vibes in a moving tale of resolve and determination in the face of adversity.
The Young Punx are no strangers to the gaming world, having had 3 tracks featured on EA releases in the past 2 years, and having performed live at the EA Games "Be The One" event in Trafalgar Square recently. However, "Fight Night Round 4" ramps this up a notch by using the track to soundtrack key scenes in the game as a core part of the gaming experience.
Even prior to the game's official release, blogs and social networking sites have
been buzzing about the track after it was featured as part of
the pre-release demo version of the game, and rips of the song
from the game, plus home made footage of the band rehearsing the
track are both proving popular on Youtube.

"Ready for the fight" will be available for download on iTunes in late June 2009, with further promotion planned for later in the summer including a video by cult artist Han Hoogerbrugge, and a performance of the track to 15,000 fans at the Nano Mugen festival in Japan, building up to the release of the album "Mashpop and Punkstep" in Fall 2009. This new album continues The Young Punx' manifesto to break down the genre barriers inherent in electronic, dance and urban music, blending diverse and exciting musical styles to create new and vibrant sounds.

5th. Free download - "The Clapping Song"
for Buffet Libre Rewind 2. The Young Punx have taken part in the legendary Buffet
Libre "Rewind" project, in which 100 artists do cover
versions of tracks from the 70s, 80s and 90s for a free online
digital download compilation. The Young Punx chose to cover
the Belle Stars version of "The Clapping Song" from
1982, which is itself a cover of Shirley Ellis' 60s original.
Featuring vocals from Laura Kidd and virtuoso guitar from Guthrie
Govan the track starts out as a fairly faithful cover version,
until Phonat takes the helm half way through and it turns into
a kind of electro drum and bass freak out version! Hal Ritson
of The Young Punx comments, "What attracted us was the combination of the innocence
of the playground rhyme pop style with the sulky thatcher-era
vocal delivery. Also it seemed fun to do a cover version of
a song that was ALREADY a cover version of a 60's song. A cover
of a cover."
Visit
the Rewind 2 site to download the other cover versions
in the project by artists including Little Boots, Bonde do role
and Au Revoir Simone.

12th. New Mashup - Lola's Ghost. A new mash-up for you. I thought these would sit nicely
together the moment I first heard Deadmau5 “Ghosts N Stuff”
ringing through from Phonat’s room next door! I had to
re-record the strings and brass for Lola’s Theme myself
with live players to clarify the harmony enough to make it gel,
but hey, I do these kinds of things for you and you don’t
get that kind of dedication from anyone else!

28th October - The Young Punx debut album, 'Your Music Is Killing
Me', has been shortlisted for the Grammy Awards'Best Electronic/Dance Album' category; great
news in the week that sees them also take-over BBC Radio
1 for a very special Halloween guest mix.
Not many producers in Dance Music circles can claim to have
received an invitation from one of the Dance Music's biggest
personalities, David Guetta, to co-write on
his PopLife album. To have performed on over ten top
ten records including Eric Prydz' number-one record
'Call On Me' and Supermode's 'Tell
Me Why'. Notch up remix credits for no less than Norman
Cook's Mighty Dub Kats alter ego, The
Scissor Sisters, Sonny J, and Utah Saints, and then
spend a Summer performing with Stereophonics
in front of 15,000 people, support Tiesto at
Ibiza superclub, Privilege and be invited by
Radio 1's Judge Jules to play at the infamous Judgement
Sunday's event. The Young Punx front man, Hal Ritson
can and now adding to this acclaim, his Young Punx act have
had their debut album 'Your Music Is Killing Me' shortlisted
for nomination by the prestigious Grammy Award judges and
entered into the 'Best Electronic/Dance Album' category.
The Young Punx, who are signed to Ultra Records in the US, received
the news yesterday afternoon. Commenting on the achievement
Hal Ritson says; "Ooooh. Exciting".
Going on to agree that "after a hard summer spent mostly
in airline departure lounges touring The Young Punx act around
America, Europe and Asia, its great to get back home and get
news like this. It shows that people are liking what we do".
This Friday (31st) BBC Radio 1 broadcast a special half-hour
Young Punx Halloween takeover mash-up mix as part of the Annie
Nightingale show, In New Music We Trust brand; This
precedes a live performance in London's Trafalgar Square
on Saturday (1st Nov) as part of Electronic Arts 'The
One' games and music festival, a free event beginning on Friday
31st. Those in attendence will be treated to two tracks taken
from their Grammy shortlisted album, 'Your Music Is Killing
Me' plus their new single, "MASHitUP".
October
23rd. Halloween guest mix on BBC Radio
One and download "Ghosts vs Ghouls" To celebrate Halloween this year, BBC Radio One have commissioned
The Young Punx to do an exclusive guest mix for the Annie Nightingale
show which goes out late on Halloween night.
As a teaser for this show, here is the opening section of the
mix, the cheekily titled “Ghosts vs Ghouls” which blends Japan’s
80s masterpiece with a recent Claude Von Stroke remix of “Ghouls”
by Luke Solomon to create a spooky dancefloor classic which spans
the decades. Bring this one out for your Halloween party!
Listen in to the show live on UK Radio on Halloween night, or
on the internet “listen again” feature the following week to hear
the whole mix, which blends breaks, electro, dubstep and drum
and bass with a variety of spooky classics, including some very
unusual reworkings of the likes of Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”
and Iron Maiden’s “The Number of the Beast”.

26th. Great Update Mag Album Review
Great review of our album from Update magazine (the insiders'
mag for the UK dance music industry) Album of the Week
The Young Punx
‘Your Music Is Killing Me’
(Mofo-Hifi)
This refreshing and at times startling debut from Hal Ritson
and Cameron Saunders is the sorta record Fatboy Slim should
have made to follow-up ‘We’ve Come A Long Way Baby’. It’s phat,
funky, quirky, in-ya-face and above all fun. Stompers like ‘Wake
Up, Make Up…’, ‘Rockall’ and ‘You’ve Got To…’ rub shoulders
with the ‘80s disco boogie pastiche of ‘It Doesn’t Stop’, and
the electro pop of ‘Young & Beautiful’. There’s also the kitsch:
‘Interplanetary’ (a remake of the Carpenters hit), and neo-classical
title track along with and the Eric Prydz-like ‘Fire’. In fact
there’s a staggering 17-tracks on show, with many, past, present
and future single among them. By refusing to adhere to any one
musical style, the Young Punx! may well become one of the most
misunderstood artists of their generation, yet despite this,
expect this totally absorbing debut to make its mark on the
end of year ‘best of’ listings. (Lewis Dene) 5 dancin’ men

with an attractive offering. Combining flamenco guitar and hooky
vocals (Sting eat your heart out) to a bumpy, as ever well funky,
electro-house backing track, ‘Fire’ is ... a fine
club choon that, rare occurrence, will work in commercial clubs

6th. Ike and Tina Turner VS Young Punx - "Raise Your Hand
(U Got To)"
Well
well. Turns out there is a new Young Punx track out today and
we didn't even know about it. This is a bootleg of and old,
fairly unknown, but pretty groovy Ike and Tina Turner track
that we did a year ago for Gut records that has now surfaced
with a digital release this week. We should note that though
they have put our name down as the artist, the original idea
was by an act called Gauzz (I think). Our mix is quite downtempo
and breaky, but there are bangin mixes in there too for the
house heads. Its quite fun.
